Description
The Indiana Nurses’ License Plate is part of the Special Recognition License Plate Program sponsored by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). The BMV grants approval for these plates to recognise groups that have made significant civic, community, and charitable contributions in the State of Indiana.
The 2003 IONL Board of Directors set a strategic goal to create a means of raising annual dollars for donation to Indiana Nursing Organisations working to improve nursing resources in the state and promote the profession of nursing as a career through scholarships, education, and grants.
The plate design and application to the Indiana BMV were prepared for submission during the winter months. Official notification of approval came in May 2003, with the stipulation that 500 plates had to be pre-sold by July 31 for the state to manufacture the plate. Thanks to nurses and friends of nursing in Indiana, the goal was met and exceeded.
Each $25.00 plate donation is placed in a separately managed Indiana Nurses’ Plate Fund. Annually, the IONL Board awards monetary donations to qualifying applicants based on available plate fund dollars.
Nurses’ plates can be purchased at a local BMV branch or online. Your purchase of a Nurses’ Plate will contribute $25.00 to the Nurses’ Plate Fund. All proceeds from this fund allow IONL to:
- Provide financial assistance to other organisations working to recruit people into the nursing profession.
- Provide a way for everyone to display pride in the profession of nursing.
