## Compensation

The base pay for this role ranges from $295K to $445K, with equity offered. Total compensation includes a performance-related bonus for eligible employees and the following benefits:

## About the Team

The Codex team builds state-of-the-art AI systems for writing code, reasoning about software, and acting as intelligent agents for developers and non-developers. Their mission is to advance code generation and agentic reasoning, deploying these capabilities in products like ChatGPT and the API.

## About the Role

As a Performance & Systems Engineer on the Codex team, you will optimize the entire system across a complex stack. This involves identifying and implementing high-impact changes across infrastructure, modeling, and product layers to make Codex agents faster and cheaper to serve.

## Responsibilities

- Identify and address inefficiencies across the Codex system stack, from agent behavior to LLM inference to container orchestration.

- Develop tooling to measure, profile, and optimize system performance at scale.

- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to implement high-ROI changes that improve latency and cost.

## Requirements

- Experience operating across both ML systems and cloud infrastructure.

- Ability to tackle ambiguous problems and deliver clear wins.

- Holistic thinking about performance, balancing speed, cost, and user experience.
