## Description

At Komodo Health, our mission is to reduce the global burden of disease through smarter use of data.

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Data Foundations team, which builds the data products behind Komodo's Healthcare Map.

The successful candidate will design, build, and scale Burrow, our query and indexing engine, written in Rust.

Key responsibilities include:

- Designing, building, and optimizing Burrow's distributed query execution, indexing, and storage layers

- Developing query APIs, semantic layers, and serving patterns for Komodo's AI products and agents

- Implementing high-performance data processing and serving patterns across large-scale healthcare datasets

- Extending Burrow beyond patient-centric data, adding healthcare provider data and new query types

- Partnering with upstream data engineering teams, product teams, and platforms built on Burrow

Requirements:

- Experience writing high-performance systems code in Rust, Erlang, or C++

- Deep knowledge of analytical engines, including columnar formats, indexing, pruning, compression, and query planning

- Demonstrated ability to design data models, serving patterns, and system architectures for complex data environments

- Track record of setting technical direction and leading design reviews

- Experience building query or serving infrastructure consumed by AI/ML systems or high-volume real-time traffic

Nice to have:

- Experience with healthcare data, claims, clinical, RWE, provider, patient, or life sciences data

- Familiarity with coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, NDC, RxNorm, NPI, or taxonomy data

- Experience moving workloads off Redshift, Snowflake, or similar warehouses onto purpose-built serving infrastructure

- Knowledge of applied AI and agentic workflows

In terms of compensation, the salary range for this role is:

- San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $225,000-$265,000 USD

- All Other US Locations: $196,000-$230,000 USD
