## Description

## About the role

Frontier research relies on more than just research. Behind every model launch, review, and cross-team program is a complex web of decisions, priorities, and follow-through that keeps hundreds of researchers aligned. Research Operations plays a crucial role in bringing clarity to ambiguity, providing stability during change, and deepening domain knowledge so researchers can focus on solving unique problems. This is one of the highest-leverage functions at Anthropic.

We are looking for an experienced operator to work closely with the leadership of our reinforcement learning (RL) organization. The RL team is responsible for training Claude to be more capable, reliable, and aligned. As an operator, you will shape the priorities of leadership, ensure timely decisions, and clear obstacles so leaders can focus on high-impact work. You will report to the Manager of Research Operations and collaborate daily with RL organization leaders and their teams.

## Key responsibilities

- Own leadership's time by prioritizing their schedule, setting agendas, and eliminating non-critical tasks.

- Triage issues that reach leadership, resolving what you can, routing others to the appropriate channels, and escalating as needed.

- Enable informed decision-making and follow-through by providing necessary information, communicating decisions, and tracking commitments.

- Anticipate problems by identifying resource gaps, technical bottlenecks, and stalled action items before they become major issues.

- Scale leadership's voice by drafting materials for organization-wide announcements, programming, and planning sessions.

- Improve organizational efficiency by identifying recurring friction points and finding solutions.

- Serve as a thought partner to leaders, offering candid counsel and constructive disagreement.

## Minimum qualifications

- Passion for Anthropic's mission and commitment to its principles.

- Technical fluency to engage with researchers, understanding concepts like RL training runs and evaluation results.

- Clear writing skills to summarize complex information for technical and non-technical audiences.

- Ability to create effective dashboards and visualizations.

- Strong follow-through and attention to detail.

- Experience in operations, chief of staff, or program management roles supporting senior leaders in fast-paced technical organizations.

- High integrity and commitment to making mission-driven decisions.

## Preferred qualifications

- Experience supporting senior leaders directly.

- Background in a research institution or lab.

- Track record of anticipating needs and proactively addressing them.

- Comfort working in rapidly changing environments.

- Experience with automation and scripting.

- Familiarity with AI safety and existential risks.

The annual compensation range for this role is $210,000-$260,000 USD.
