## Description

We are seeking a Mid-level Media Relations/Public Affairs professional to work with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and Military Health System (MHS) Communications and Public Affairs teams. The successful candidate will support the execution of a high-visibility media relations program that informs key audiences about military health and medicine.

**Primary Responsibilities:**

- Support Government public affairs officers in executing the DHA/MHS media relations mission, including receiving, researching, coordinating, and developing responses to daily media inquiries.

- Assist with the development of comprehensive media interview preparation packages for leaders and subject matter experts.

- Conduct daily and overnight media monitoring of national, industry, and other relevant news sources.

- Compile and prepare the MHS Early Bird, a daily news clips product.

- Prepare Medical Media Highlights, an executive-level daily report.

- Monitor breaking news and alert Government communications leaders to emerging issues.

- Develop special-topic media monitoring reports.

- Prepare and distribute a daily media Situation Report (SITREP).

- Support proactive media outreach efforts.

- Assist with media training and preparation for leaders and subject matter experts.

- Support media analysis efforts.

- Review media coverage to identify communications opportunities and emerging issues.

- Coordinate with Government public affairs officers and other stakeholders.

- Maintain organized records of media inquiries and related communications products.

**Basic Qualifications:**

- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, Political Science, or a related field.

- Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in media relations, public affairs, strategic communications, journalism, or a related discipline.

- Experience researching, drafting, and coordinating responses to media inquiries.

- Experience developing or supporting media preparation materials.

- Working knowledge of media relations practices, news cycles, and public affairs principles.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong research and news judgment skills.

- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and produce accurate work within established deadlines.

- Experience preparing media summaries, news clips, and situation reports.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Ability to work effectively as part of an integrated team.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

- Prior military or civilian service.

- Experience supporting the Defense Health Agency, Military Health System, DoD, or other federal health or defense organizations.

- Experience working in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or headquarters-level strategic communications environments.

- Familiarity with SOP development and communications governance.

**Pay Range:** $59,150.00 - $106,925.00
