## Description

Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer for Electromechanical Motor Design. You will own the design of motors and other electric machines for X-BAT and other next-gen aircraft.

Responsibilities:

- Design sub-systems and components including wound field motor, permanent magnet motor, and motor mechanical structural components

- Integrate designs with the aircraft structure, engine, power electronics, and thermal system

- Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of electro-mechanical designs at a component and motor sub-system level

- Release detailed work instructions and documentation in close collaboration with manufacturing

- Execute hands-on testing and full qualification on a representative dyno, engine test stand, and full aircraft

- Perform noise and vibration testing on components for motors and power electronics, including vehicle powertrain and thermal systems

Requirements:

- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of electric motors

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent

- Strong technical fundamentals with material selection, mechanics, dynamics, thermal, DFM, and tolerancing

- Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling

- Experience with GD&T, stack-up analyses (linear & radial), and determining realistic tolerancing limits based on manufacturing best practices

- Delivered motor products from design through production

- Hands-on experience to verify performance and integrate with power electronics

- Experience testing for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH)

- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting
