## Description

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist. In this role, you will own technical design and delivery for IBM i initiatives, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, and supportable.

Responsibilities:

- Own technical design and delivery for IBM i initiatives, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, and supportable.

- Provide day-to-day technical direction to developers (coding standards, design reviews, estimation, and prioritisation).

- Lead root-cause analysis for major incidents and drive permanent fixes (problem management).

- Ensure documentation is fit for purpose: solution designs, runbooks, support guides, and knowledge articles.

- Design, develop, and maintain IBM i applications using RPGLE (Free preferred), CL/CLLE, COBOL (as applicable).

- Work with DB2 for i (SQL, performance tuning, indexing strategies, locking/journalling considerations).

- Apply IBM i operational concepts: subsystems, job queues, output queues, work management, and scheduling.

- Implement robust exception handling, logging, and recovery patterns to improve operational resilience.

- Provide L3 production support and technical oversight for L2 teams; participate in on-call/major incident support as required.

- Drive stability improvements through trend analysis, defect prevention, and proactive monitoring enhancements.

- Own release readiness: deployment planning, back-out strategies, post-release validation, and production sign-off.

- Enable and consume integrations using API concepts (REST/JSON), service enablement patterns, and middleware where relevant.

- Preferred - Build automation using Python (or similar) for migration, operational tasks, reconciliation, reporting, and validation.

- Good to have - Explore AI-enabled improvements (e.g., log analytics, anomaly detection, incident triage support) in collaboration with platform/tooling teams.

Requirements:

- 5+ years hands-on experience with IBM i / iSeries / AS400 in enterprise environments.

- Strong development experience in RPGLE (Free), CLLE (COBOL a plus depending on estate).

- Strong DB2 for i capability: SQL, performance tuning, data modelling concepts, and troubleshooting.

- Proven track record in production support, troubleshooting, and major incident/root-cause analysis.

- Solid understanding of exception handling, resilience patterns, and operational controls.

- Working knowledge of API usage and integration concepts (REST, JSON, authentication basics).

- Strong analytical and communication skills,able to translate complex technical issues into clear actions and decisions.

- Exposure to AI/ML concepts or practical AIOps use cases.

- Experience leading data migration programmes (ETL, reconciliation, cutover).

- Python scripting and automation experience.
