## Description

We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction for Toast's Developer Experience team. This role involves setting the technical vision, designing solutions, and collaborating with various teams to enhance the developer workflow.

Responsibilities:

- Define the technical direction and long-term architecture for Developer Experience

- Oversee testing frameworks and core libraries for web services development

- Design, build, and ship high-leverage platform components

- Collaborate with Product to identify friction points in the developer workflow and create a prioritized roadmap

- Develop self-service golden paths and paved roads for product teams

- Ensure technical alignment with partner teams in AI, CICD, and Cloud Infrastructure

- Partner with customer-facing teams to align developer platform solutions with business needs

- Mentor engineers and promote technical leadership

Requirements:

- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience

- Expertise in at least one general-purpose language (e.g., Kotlin, Java, Go, TypeScript)

- Experience with build systems and dependency management at scale

- Track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple teams

- Experience designing developer-facing products with a focus on usability and adoption

- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and agentic development practices

- Strong communication skills and ability to influence without authority

Salary Range:

- Zone A: $193,000-$309,000 USD

- Zone B: $168,000-$269,000 USD

- Zone C: $151,000-$242,000 USD
