## Description

We are seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence.

**Purpose of the role** As a Lead Full Stack Engineer at Barclays, you will design, develop, and improve software, utilizing various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

**Accountabilities**

- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.

- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements and devise solution strategies.

- Promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.

- Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations.

- Adherence to secure coding practices.

- Implementation of effective unit testing practices.

- Contribution to strategy, driving requirements, and making recommendations for change.

- Management of resources, budgets, and policies.

**Technical Leadership & Solution Design**

- Lead the design and development of complex, enterprise-scale applications.

- Define and promote engineering standards, coding practices, and architectural principles.

- Drive technical decision-making and provide leadership on technology selection.

**End-to-End Software Engineering**

- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.

- Delivery of high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code.

- Leadership in the development of APIs, microservices, event-driven solutions, and cloud-native applications.

- Ensuring operational stability through observability, monitoring, performance tuning, and production support.

**Agile Delivery**

- Participation in Agile delivery processes.

- Collaboration with Product Owners and Scrum Masters.

- Support for predictable delivery of business outcomes.

**Engineering Excellence**

- Championing DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and Infrastructure as Code practices.

- Driving continuous improvement in software quality, security, and delivery efficiency.

- Promotion of engineering metrics and data-driven decision-making.

**Stakeholder Management**

- Partnership with business and technology stakeholders.

- Effective communication of technical solutions and delivery risks.

- Contribution to governance forums and technical design reviews.

**Talent Development & Mentoring**

- Mentoring engineers and providing technical coaching.

- Promotion of a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

- Support for the development of engineering capabilities and adoption of emerging technologies.

**Essential Skills**

- Extensive experience in Full Stack Software Engineering within complex enterprise environments.

- Strong experience in back-end development using Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies.

- Experience designing and building REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.

- Experience in Database Technologies - SQL and NoSQL (Oracle / Mongo).

- Experience with DevSecOps - PaaS Openshift / K8S, GitLab, JIRA, SonarQube, Prisma, and Wiz, Maven or Gradle.

- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, automated testing, and software quality engineering.

- Experience with event-streaming technologies such as Kafka and Message Queues.

- Experience of Rapid Application Development using AI models like Claude, GitLab Duo.

- Computer Science degree or equivalent understanding of Computer Science, Object-Oriented Design, and Data Structures.
