## Job Overview

As a Legal Product Builder at Carta, you will be at the forefront of developing technology for the practice of law. Carta is a leading platform that integrates software, services, and legal infrastructure for managing equity, fund administration, and legal transactions.

## Responsibilities

- Develop AI-powered legal products with engineers and product managers, bringing deep legal expertise into the product development process.

- Translate legal judgment into systems by breaking down legal processes like contract review and compliance into decisions, rules, workflows, exceptions, and escalation points for AI agents.

- Create examples, evaluation criteria, test cases, and feedback loops to help legal agents produce accurate and trustworthy work.

- Evaluate and improve agent performance by testing against real-world scenarios, diagnosing failure modes, and partnering with engineers to enhance them.

- Prototype new legal capabilities using AI tools to experiment with prompts, workflows, and agent behavior.

## Team and Collaboration

You will join Carta Law, an AI-native legal services firm that combines legal expertise with cutting-edge technology. The team focuses on delivering end-to-end legal and compliance services, working alongside top AI engineers and legal professionals.

## Requirements

- Legal background with 4+ years of substantive training and experience as a lawyer.

- Demonstrated track record of identifying where legal workflows break down and proposing improvements.

- Technical fluency to communicate effectively with engineers on AI products.

- Strong written communication skills and ability to operate independently.

## Nice to Have

- Experience in direct commercial contract negotiation.

- Prior experience at a legal tech company or in a hybrid legal/product role.

- Familiarity with contract automation, document intelligence, or negotiation tooling.

- Founder experience or having built something from scratch.

## Salary

The minimum cash compensation range for this role is $204,000 - $240,000 in New York City, NY and San Francisco, CA.
