## Description

OpenAI is seeking an Agent Standards Specialist to join its Global Affairs team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing and implementing technical standards for AI agents, ensuring they operate safely, interoperably, and with clear accountability.

**Job Summary:** As AI agents increasingly take actions across the internet, the standards governing identity, delegated authority, discovery, communications, and auditability will determine their impact. This role will work closely with various teams, including Agent Security, Applied and Platform teams, Product, Legal, GRC, Global Affairs, and GTM to develop credible specifications, protocol profiles, assurance criteria, and implementation guidance.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- Own a focused workstream plan for core agent identity, discovery, and delegated-authorization standards

- Recommend where OpenAI should lead, shape, monitor, oppose, or decline to participate in assigned workstreams

- Develop technical standards positions and normative contributions that preserve distinctions among human or service principals, agents, workloads, tasks, sessions, resources, and policy decisions

- Shape requirements for scoped delegation, attenuation, step-up approval, revocation, credential custody, runtime binding, discovery, interoperability, agent-specific provenance, and auditable action trails

- Embed with Agent Security and Applied or Platform teams to translate internal architecture and controls into technically credible specifications

- Lead review and approval paths across Product, Security, Engineering, Legal, GRC, Global Affairs, and GTM

- Represent OpenAI in priority venues and coalitions, such as IETF and OAuth-related work, FIDO, OIDF, W3C, AAIF, and relevant NIST or ISO efforts

- Bring external standards intelligence back into product, security, compliance, and go-to-market decisions

**Requirements:**

- Strong experience in technical standards, internet protocols, identity and access, security architecture, applied cryptography, or closely related product or infrastructure work

- Experience authoring, editing, or materially shaping normative specifications, profiles, drafts, or conformance requirements in serious technical standards or open-source governance settings

- Ability to reason clearly about OAuth and OIDC, FIDO or WebAuth, workload identity, HTTP signatures, delegated authority, credential lifecycle, revocation, provenance, and auditability

- Understanding that agent trust is a composed stack rather than a single credential

- Excellent communication and negotiation skills

**Benefits:**

- $171K – $280K base salary

- Generous equity

- Performance-related bonus(es) for eligible employees

- Medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family

- Pre-tax accounts for Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, and commuter expenses

- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match

- Paid parental leave, medical and caregiver leave

- Flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees

- 13+ paid company holidays

- Mental health and wellness support

- Employer-paid basic life and disability coverage

- Annual learning and development stipend

- Daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits

- Relocation support for eligible employees
