## Description

## About the role

Frontier research relies on more than just research. Behind every model launch, review, and cross-team program is a complex web of decisions, priorities, and follow-through that keeps hundreds of researchers aligned. Research Operations plays a crucial role in bringing clarity to ambiguity, providing stability during change, and deepening domain knowledge so researchers can focus on solving unique problems. This is one of the highest-leverage functions at Anthropic.

We are looking for an experienced operator to work closely with the leadership of our reinforcement learning (RL) organization. The RL team is responsible for training Claude to be more capable, reliable, and aligned. As an operator, you will shape the priorities of leadership, ensure timely decisions, and clear obstacles so leaders can focus on high-impact work. You will report to the Manager of Research Operations and collaborate daily with RL organization leaders and their teams.

## Key responsibilities

- Own leadership's time by shaping their priorities, setting agendas, and eliminating non-critical tasks.

- Triage issues that reach leadership, resolving what you can, routing others to the appropriate decision-makers, and escalating as needed.

- Enable wise decision-making by providing necessary information, communicating decisions, and tracking commitments.

- Anticipate problems, identifying resource gaps, technical bottlenecks, and stalled actions before they become blockers.

- Scale leadership's voice by drafting materials for organization-wide announcements and planning sessions.

- Improve organizational efficiency by identifying friction points and implementing process improvements.

- Serve as a thought partner, offering candid counsel to leaders.

## Minimum qualifications

- Passion for Anthropic's mission and commitment to its principles.

- Technical fluency to engage with researchers, understanding concepts like RL training runs and evaluation results.

- Clear writing skills, able to summarize complex information for technical and non-technical audiences.

- Experience with data visualization and dashboard improvement.

- Strong follow-through and attention to detail.

- Ability to influence without authority and push back on senior stakeholders when necessary.

- Comfort with ambiguity and fast-paced environments.

- Experience in operations, chief of staff, or program management roles in technical organizations.

- High integrity, recognizing the importance of mission-driven decision-making.

## Preferred qualifications

- Experience supporting senior leaders directly.

- Background in research institutions or labs.

- Track record of anticipating needs and proactively addressing them.

- Comfort in dynamic environments where priorities shift frequently.

- Experience with automation and scripting.

- Familiarity with AI safety and existential risks.

The annual compensation range for this role is $210,000-$260,000 USD.
