## Description

## Job Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Simulation Platform team at Anduril, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the core architecture and infrastructure of our high-fidelity, multi-domain military mission simulator.

## About the Team

The Simulation Platform team owns the core architecture and infrastructure of Anduril's high-fidelity, multi-domain military mission simulator. It models hundreds of entities, aircraft, ships, submarines, satellites, ground vehicles, moving, sensing, communicating, and engaging across realistic physical environments. The simulator powers training, mission planning, autonomy development, and hardware-in-the-loop testing across Anduril's product portfolio. It connects to live systems, integrates with Anduril's Lattice platform, and runs inside a GUI for interactive scenario authoring. Mission Sim is a large, mature C++20 codebase with an Entity-Component-System architecture, a stable C ABI plugin system, embedded scripting, and a variety of physics-based models. Keeping this system fast, correct, extensible, and pleasant to develop against at scale, with a growing team of model developers is our job.

## Responsibilities

- Develop model authoring tools to extend the Sim frontend with UI for authoring and tuning Mission Sim models. This involves negotiating extension APIs with the GUI team and building an ergonomic UI atop them.

- Work on the custom Entity-Component-System architecture that underpins the entire simulator, focusing on entity lifecycle, component storage, and the update loop.

- Maintain and develop plugins and SDKs, ensuring a versioned C ABI that enables external teams to extend the simulator.

- Optimize performance and scale to keep the simulation loop fast enough for real-time and faster-than-real-time execution with hundreds of concurrent entities. This includes reasoning about memory layout, cache behavior, and contention as entity counts grow.

- Design and implement integration architecture, including gRPC services, DIS protocol interoperability, networking messaging, and file recording for analysis and playback.

- Collaborate with domain experts to integrate new and enhance existing capability models.

## Requirements

- 3 years of professional experience with C++20 and strong C++ skills, particularly with templates, move semantics, smart pointers, and design decisions relevant to framework code.

- Experience designing internal APIs and frameworks that other engineers build on, with a focus on backwards-compatibility and ergonomics.

- Solid understanding of systems programming fundamentals: memory management, shared libraries, ABI stability, linking, interfacing with the operating system.

- Comfort with linear algebra and applied math.

- Familiarity with Linux-based C++ development toolchains.

- Ability to reason about performance-sensitive code, including cache behavior, memory layout, and algorithmic complexity.

- Clear technical communication and ability to work in a large, shared codebase, negotiating architectural decisions that affect a growing team.

- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

## Preferred Qualifications

- 5+ years of professional experience with C++20.

- Experience leading or mentoring engineers on a project, setting technical direction, and bringing others along.

- Comfort operating in ambiguity, scoping problems, approaches, and interfaces, and driving them to a decision.

- Experience with military simulation, defense modeling & simulation, or related domains.

- Experience with Entity-Component-System architectures or game engine design patterns.

- Experience in designing and implementing GUI-supported workflows.

- Familiarity with gRPC, DIS (IEEE 1278.1) distributed simulation standard.

- Experience with Python/C++ interop (pybind11, embedded interpreters).

- Familiarity with behavior trees or autonomous agent architectures.

- Developing in Nix.

- Experience with numerical simulation, physics modeling, or scientific computing.

## Compensation and Benefits

- The salary range for this role is $191,000-$253,000 USD per year.

- Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.

- Anduril offers top-tier benefits for full-time employees, including comprehensive health, recovery, and support programs.
