## Description

Leidos Defense is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join a matrixed organization of systems engineers, model-based systems engineers, and specialty systems engineers. The successful candidate will primarily support a vehicle-based radar development program but have the opportunity to support multiple efforts simultaneously.

The System Safety Engineer will work independently, coordinating with other Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) on these efforts, defining their own tasking derived from customer needs and contractual documents. Each effort will require different specific safety artifacts, including hazard tracking, mitigation, and regular reporting to the customer via deliverables.

The Safety Engineer will lead the prime contractor system safety working group, engaging the customer and working hand-in-hand with the program's systems engineers and human factors engineers to ensure system compliance and verify customer needs are met.

**Responsibilities**

- Analyze the systems hardware and software safety to the operator and equipment in accordance with MIL-STD-882

- Derive requirements for complex electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software systems

- Work independently and coordinate with IPTs

- Lead the prime contractor system safety working group

- Engage with the customer and internal stakeholders

**Requirements**

- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 8+ years of experience or an MS with 6+ years

- Demonstrated familiarity with MIL-STD-882E and its application to system safety programs

- Experience in deriving requirements for complex systems

- Ability to work in a collaborative engineering environment

- Effective communication skills

- Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area

- Possess a secret clearance

**Preferred Qualifications**

- Master's degree in Safety or System Engineering from an ABET-accredited university

- Direct system safety engineering experience

- Familiarity with AR 385-10, AR 385-16, AR 770-3, and AMCOM 385-17

- Knowledge of Army Safety Board processes and preparation

- Experience with Software System Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP) coordination

- Hazard analysis experience (PHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA, EHA, HHA, FTA, FMEA)

- Proficiency with safety tools and databases

- Leadership experience

- Understanding of DoD acquisition processes and methods

- Experience supporting DoD programs

- Object Management Group (OMG) Certified System Modeler Professional (OCSMP) certification

- INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification (ASEP or CSEP)
