## Description

This position reports to the Substation Physical Design Manager for Southern Company Services, Technical Shared Services, Substation Engineering and is based in Forest Park, GA.

The Substation Physical Design group is responsible for engineering, design, and coordination of substation projects including development of detailed design packages, material specifications, and vendor qualification and approval.

**Job Responsibilities**

- Prioritise safety above all else, leading by example with a 'Safety First' mentality.

- Lead the Physical Design group to ensure high productivity, excellent design quality, and proper resource utilisation to meet project schedules.

- Serve as the primary interface for opco clients, internal design teams, and other business partners.

- Select and develop top talent for the Physical Design team.

- Assign resources to projects, ensure suitable design durations, and meet schedule commitments.

- Participate in, support, or lead initiatives for Substation Engineering and Power Delivery.

- Support the development of design standards and criteria for use on the Southern Company System.

- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to employees for daily activities in Physical Design.

- Develop and support a strong and effective team environment within Substation Engineering and with operating company partners.

**Job Qualifications**

- BS degree in engineering preferred - or other degree with applicable experience.

- Professional Engineer license preferred.

- Experience with design, maintenance, or operation of substations in the power utility environment.

- Knowledge and experience of substation design and maintenance; specific expertise in physical design and layout; substation equipment; and substation design methods, standards, and criteria.

- Demonstrated understanding of managing accountability and performance of self and team members.

- Ability to coach and develop technical personnel.

- Extensive problem-solving skills.

- Proven ability to establish and maintain peer and customer relationships across organisations.

- Ability to make authoritative decisions and take necessary action in routine and emergency situations.

- Ability to use TEAMS, STOMP, AutoCAD, SCST Vault, and other necessary computer design tools.
