## Description

The Splunk Search Experience backend team at Cisco is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a team of passionate distributed-systems engineers in building the next-generation, highly scalable search platform that fuels AI-driven workflows across products.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of the team driving the evolution of Splunk's flagship search engine capabilities, ensuring the platform meets the next wave of customer scale, performance, and reliability needs. You will have the opportunity to partner with product and multi-functional teams to deliver high-performance, efficient, and resilient backend search services that delight customers.

Key responsibilities include:

- Designing, developing, and launching features directly powering Splunk's core search functionalities across the product ecosystem.

- Building robust, fault-tolerant, and scalable distributed systems in a multi-threaded/multi-process environment.

- Defining and performing various search language layer optimizations/transformations.

- Analyzing and improving reliability and scalability of search execution pipelines.

- Diagnosing and solving customer incidents and issues, reflecting and identifying gaps in product, observability, and process, and designing and delivering enhancements for prevention.

- Hiring, mentoring junior engineers, and growing talents on the team.

Minimum qualifications:

- 6+ years of experience in software engineering with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.

- Deep expertise in C++, including experience building high-performance backend systems.

- Strong foundation in Distributed Systems concepts, System Design, Debugging, and Testing.

- Proven ability to design scalable and reliable system architectures.

- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and triaging skills.

- Experience owning and delivering complex software projects end-to-end in production environments.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Demonstrated experience mentoring other engineers and driving technical direction.

- Experience working with public cloud services such as AWS, GCP, Azure.

Preferred qualifications:

- Experience with modern monitoring, observability, and performance tuning tools.

- Exposure to full-stack search systems (e.g., indexing pipelines, query execution pipelines).

- Knowledge of deploying and managing services in Kubernetes clusters.
