## Description

We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our PEO Benefits team. As a seasoned full-stack software engineer, you'll help build systems for Gusto's Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and Benefits offering, which includes a national Master Health Plan that can lower healthcare costs for small businesses.

Responsibilities:

- Design, build, and test the Gusto PEO Benefits experience, including benefits shopping and plan-recommendation flows, carrier integrations, and automation tools.

- Mentor other engineers to solve complex technical problems.

- Scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and Javascript/React applications in the world.

- Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering teams to understand customer pain points and come up with solutions.

Requirements:

- 8+ years of software development experience.

- Experience owning multi-quarter projects that solve complex engineering problems.

- Experience driving large, cross-functional projects end-to-end.

- Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development.

- Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks.

- Ability to mentor engineers.

Nice to Have:

- PEO expertise with 3+ years of experience.

- Experience in Ruby on Rails.

- Appreciation for a collaborative, test-driven environment.

- Ability to build well-structured, maintainable code.

We offer competitive base pay ($163,000–$204,000 in Denver and most remote locations, $197,000–$247,000 in San Francisco and New York), benefits, and equity (RSUs).
