## Description

As a Principal Associate, Data Scientist on the Card Finance Innovation Team at Capital One, you will play a key role in powering the core forecasting engine that enables Card Finance to navigate monthly outlooks, annual budgets, and long-term strategic planning.

You will partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver a product customers love. You will leverage a broad stack of technologies, including Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more, to reveal insights hidden within huge volumes of numeric and textual data.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Building machine learning models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation

- Translating complex work into tangible business goals

- Working with a modern tech stack, including Python, OneLake, and Snowflake

The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, creative, technical, and statistically-minded. They will have experience with open-source languages, cloud computing platforms, and data science solutions.

Basic qualifications include:

- A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field) plus 5 years of experience performing data analytics

- A Master's Degree in a quantitative field or an MBA with a quantitative concentration plus 3 years of experience performing data analytics

- A PhD in a quantitative field

Preferred qualifications include:

- A Master's Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) plus 3 years of experience in data analytics

- At least 3 years of experience in Python, Scala, or R

- At least 3 years of experience with machine learning

- At least 3 years of experience with SQL

- At least 1 year of experience working with AWS

In terms of salary, the range for this role is $161,800 - $184,600 per year for the McLean, VA location.
