## Job Title: Sr. Engineering Manager, Key Value (KV)

## Job Description:

We're looking for an experienced engineering manager to lead our Key Value (KV) team. The KV team is responsible for building and maintaining the core components of CockroachDB, including the distributed transaction protocol, replication layer, and data placement allocator.

### Responsibilities:

- Lead the KV team, manage projects, coach engineers, and run the performance and growth process

- Drive the roadmap, partner with Engineering and Product leadership to plan, prioritize, and ship multi-quarter projects

- Be the connective tissue with the rest of the Database Engineering org, ensuring healthy interfaces between the storage layer, SQL, Backup, Restore, and Changefeeds

- Run a portfolio of highly technical projects, keeping several large, parallel projects on track without losing the technical details that matter

- Represent the team externally, showcasing the team's work off to the broader database and distributed systems community

### Expectations:

- First 30 days: embed in the team, get to know each engineer, the technical sub-domains, and the cross-functional partners

- By 3 months: running the team day to day, solid working knowledge of CockroachDB's architecture and KV's place in it

- By 6 months: confidently leading the team across its complex multi-project roadmap, shaping how KV is structured for the workstreams it's signed up for

### Requirements:

- Proven engineering management chops, 5+ years managing software engineering teams

- Deep technical foundation, ideally a background in databases or systems infrastructure

- High EQ, building trust through empathy and consistency

- Project management chops, keeping multiple large, technically dense workstreams moving in parallel

- Distributed-team fluency, leading teams across time zones and making async work for high-context engineering and knowledge work

- Genuine interest in the domain, distributed systems and databases aren't a stop on a career path

### Team:

- Reporting to Nick Travers, Senior Manager, Engineering

- Isaac Wong, EVP R&D, leads the Engineering organization at Cockroach Labs
