## Description

This role is the engineering excellence anchor across CTO Foundations within Analytics and Common Components. As Principal Engineer, you will shape technical strategy and set high standards for design and code across a portfolio of agile teams that support HSBC’s global businesses across all regions.

The focus includes containerisation for multiple cloud deployments and an inner source pattern-based approach that improves consistency and reusability across domains including Risk and Finance. Success means shipping high quality software efficiently with automation built in from the start to reduce toil.

Responsibilities:

- Set engineering standards for design, code quality and delivery across Analytics and Common Components

- Shape and communicate technical strategy aligned to HSBC Technology’s strategic vision

- Build reusable patterns and services that support multiple value stream domains including Risk and Finance

- Embed containerised and microservice-based approaches for deployments across multiple cloud providers

- Deliver hands-on engineering across the stack with coding as a major part of the role

- Establish automation-first ways of working to reduce toil and improve delivery efficiency

- Champion DORA and other engineering metrics and strengthen KPIs over time

- Research new technology and processes then advance safe adoption within a controlled framework

Requirements:

- Bring substantial hands-on software engineering experience with coding as a core part of the role

- Demonstrate deep expertise in one or more of Java, Python or Go with Kubernetes and cloud

- Apply strong microservice design capability and practical experience with containerised solutions

- Show experience designing and running highly available systems at scale

- Demonstrate experience deploying solutions across different cloud providers in an agnostic way

- Translate business opportunities into technical solutions with a pragmatic approach to delivery and strategy

- Communicate technology direction clearly to senior stakeholders and influence decisions on delivery approach

- Use engineering metrics including DORA to evaluate performance and improve outcomes over time
