## Description

Focus Interpreting is seeking dedicated and qualified Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDIs) to join our interpreter network.

CDIs are Deaf or hard-of-hearing professionals who provide specialized interpretation services by facilitating communication between Deaf individuals, hearing individuals, and other language users.

Responsibilities:

- Provide professional CDI services in various settings, including medical, legal, educational, and social services.

- Collaborate with hearing ASL interpreters to facilitate accurate and effective communication.

- Interpret and convey messages using appropriate ASL variations, visual communication methods, gestures, and other communication strategies as needed.

- Adapt communication approaches to accommodate individuals with limited ASL proficiency, unique language needs, or diverse communication styles.

- Ensure communication is culturally and linguistically appropriate while maintaining the speaker's intended meaning.

- Adhere to confidentiality requirements, professional ethics, and industry standards.

- Maintain professionalism, impartiality, and accuracy throughout all interpreting assignments.

Requirements:

- Current Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) certification or other applicable recognized qualifications.

- Strong proficiency in ASL and an understanding of Deaf culture, language variations, and communication needs.

- Experience working collaboratively with hearing ASL interpreters.

- Ability to assess and adapt to varying communication styles and language proficiency levels.

- Strong interpersonal, professional, and communication skills.

- Ability to work effectively in medical, legal, educational, and other professional environments.
