## Description

At Braze, we're a customer engagement platform that helps brands deliver great customer experiences. We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the User Targeting team as a hands-on technical leader.

The team is responsible for how customers segment and target their users. Every message Braze sends goes through pipelines that process billions of users per day. You'll create and own complex systems end-to-end, from the segmentation engine and data pipelines through APIs and the dashboard experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Architecting and building large-scale systems and services that handle massive data volumes and complex workloads in real-time

- Partnering with product to define what gets built and why, then improving it after launch

- Taking ownership of complex backend systems behind Braze segmentation, improving performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness

- Mentoring engineers on best practices in software design, coding, and operations

- Collaborating cross-functionally with other engineering teams, product managers, and stakeholders

- Continuously identifying opportunities to improve systems, researching new technologies, and advocating for their adoption

- Supporting and refining operational procedures to maximize system stability and quality

We're looking for someone with extensive software engineering experience, including hands-on work in full-stack development or back-end services, particularly with high-scale, high-throughput systems. You should have a proven track record of delivering customer-facing products on high-scale data systems, building foundational data-driven systems at scale, and driving architectural direction.

In terms of compensation, for candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $184,000 and $314,079 annually with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $204,000 - $348,000/year.
