## Description

Samsara is looking for a Senior Software Engineer II, Route Planning to join their team. The successful candidate will help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that's shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring.

As an engineer on the Route Planning team, you will design and build features end-to-end, from frontend to backend, that work across a diverse customer base. You will leverage AI with strong judgment, knowing when to build a prototype to unblock a stalled customer deal or accelerate a refactor that reduces risk of incidents in our products.

Responsibilities:

- Design and build features end to end, from frontend to backend, that work across our diverse customer base

- Leverage AI with strong judgement, knowing when to build a prototype to unblock a stalled customer deal or accelerate a refactor that reduces risk of incidents in our products

- Partner with the engineering manager and staff engineers to advocate for technical excellence on the team

- Work with the product manager and designer to build interfaces and APIs that make a planner’s work more efficient

- Mentor junior engineers on the team and help build a strong technical bench

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

- 6+ years of experience as a software engineer

- Demonstrated ability executing in ambiguous environments

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Nice to Have:

- Proven experience shaping and improving routing and navigation products

- A passion for mentoring and helping junior engineers grow

- A track record of thriving in 0→1 teams and scaling them through the post–startup phase

- Experience operating as a tech lead or in a similar technical role directly impacting output of other engineers

- Willingness to engage directly with customers when needed
