## Description

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Consultant Specialist.

Principal responsibilities:

- Design, develop, test and maintain secure, scalable APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.

- Own the end-to-end delivery and run lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, production support and continuous improvement.

- Apply modern engineering practices, including clean code, peer review, automation, CI/CD, shift-left testing, observability and secure-by-design principles.

- Contribute to software architecture, API standards, technical roadmaps and requirements definition, making pragmatic and sustainable design decisions.

- Collaborate with Product Owners, architects, engineers, Agile Coaches and other stakeholders to deliver Smart Channels products and engineering capabilities.

- Work with Development, Test, Operations and SRE teams to identify and resolve performance, resilience, alerting, operational intervention and design-defect issues throughout the release lifecycle.

- Lead or contribute to incident investigation, root-cause analysis, problem management and preventative actions, ensuring operational risks are addressed through to closure.

- Support the wider engineering community through mentoring, technical guidance, knowledge sharing and participation in Engineering Discipline communities.

- Maintain expertise in Java, Spring Boot, API design, cybersecurity, data privacy, consent, data residency and applicable regulatory and HSBC engineering standards.

- Use approved AI tools responsibly to improve coding, testing, documentation, troubleshooting and automation efficiency, ensuring all AI-generated outputs are human-reviewed, secure, accurate and compliant with data-handling requirements.

Requirements:

- Proven experience developing APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.

- Strong understanding of API design, integration patterns and software architecture.

- Experience across the full delivery lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment and production support.

- Ability to write secure, maintainable and well-tested code, supported by effective code reviews.

- Experience working in Agile teams with developers, testers, architects, Product Owners and Operations.

- Strong problem-solving skills, including incident investigation, root-cause analysis and performance improvement.

- Understanding of security, resilience, scalability, observability, data privacy and regulatory requirements.

- A continuous-improvement mindset, including the responsible use of approved AI tools to improve delivery efficiency and engineering practices.
