## Description

We Are:

At Synopsys, we drive the innovations that shape the way we live and connect. Our technology is central to the Era of Pervasive Intelligence, from self-driving cars to learning machines.

You Are:

You are a highly analytical and hands-on engineer, passionate about hardware systems and their reliability. With a deep understanding of electronics, troubleshooting techniques, and system-level failures, you thrive in fast-paced environments where precision and attention to detail matter most.

Your experience spans across failure analysis, PCBA testing, and Final Assembly system testing, making you a go-to expert for both technical challenges and field reliability.

You enjoy working with cross-functional teams, communicating complex findings in clear, actionable ways, and you’re comfortable presenting your insights to stakeholders at all levels.

You are proactive, resourceful, and dedicated, always ready to take ownership of challenging problems and see them through to resolution.

What You’ll Be Doing:

- Managing field hardware quality for Synopsys HAV products

- Monitoring field quality data and metrics such as RMA rates, MTBF, and product reliability

- Owning failure analysis of field returned hardware, maintaining SLA on FA, and ensuring accurate entry of FA information in the RMA database

- Analyzing RMA data, Failure Analysis, and Repair data to identify trends and raise quality excursions, collaborating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to validate resolution plans

- Driving improvement, containment, and mitigation plans for quality alerts, troubleshooting failures from system to PCBA/mechanical component level

- Conducting component-level troubleshooting and repair with supply chain partners, reviewing and approving failure analysis results, and maintaining design for reliability/service guides

- Publishing external-facing Failure Analysis Reports

- Leading field hardware quality meetings with key stakeholders, including senior management and customer support teams

- Enhancing and scaling up FA testing and automation, deploying standardized processes at global suppliers, and managing component-level supplier FA as needed

- Oversee operational performance of Failure Analysis @ contract manufacturer(s), ensuring partner(s) achieve key performance indicators, including FA SLA times, fault duplication rates, and fault isolation rates

- Work closely with the Product Quality and Manufacturing Test team to improve factory quality from field FA data

- Review and approve Failure Analysis results. Ensure status of RMA and Failure Analysis cases are updated in Synopsys customer relationship management system

- Maintain ECO matrix for RMA products and its implementation for repaired inventory

- Maintain a design for reliability/service guide. Review upcoming designs for DFR/DFS requirements

- Driving component level failure analysis with appropriate suppliers

- Travel up to 25% of the time to supplier sites out of the bay area

The Impact You Will Have:

- Elevate product quality and reliability, ensuring Synopsys hardware consistently meets and exceeds customer expectations

- Reduce field failure rates and improve MTBF, directly contributing to customer satisfaction and operational efficiency

- Drive proactive identification and resolution of quality excursions, minimizing downtime and optimizing manufacturing processes

- Influence design for reliability and service, impacting future product development and lifecycle management

- Support key business metrics by maintaining accurate failure analysis records and communicating actionable insights to stakeholders

- Foster cross-functional collaboration, enhancing teamwork between engineering, manufacturing, and customer support

- Lead process improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives that scale globally and enhance supplier performance

What You’ll Need:

- BS/MS in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field, with 7-10 years of experience in hardware failure analysis and/or Manufacturing test engineering

- Strong background in PCBA design, system test, and hardware troubleshooting, including hands-on experience with test and measurement equipment (oscilloscope, Linux-based tests)

- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PERL, Bash, shell) and working in a Linux environment

- Experience with analytical tools (SEM/EDS, CSAM, destructive/non-destructive tests) and understanding of circuit board schematics/layout

- Familiarity with Microsoft Word/Excel, Salesforce, SAP, Jira, and report automation tools (MS BI/Tableau/Sisense/Crystal Reports)

- Basic mechanical engineering knowledge and ability to lift/move up to 65lbs regularly

Who You Are:

- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and efficient in both written and oral communication

- Collaborative team player who thrives in cross-functional environments and values diverse perspectives

- Proactive problem solver with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

- Adaptable and resourceful, able to manage multiple priorities and drive process improvements

- Committed to continuous learning and professional growth, with a passion for innovation and quality

The Team You’ll Be A Part Of:

You will join the Hardware Assisted Verification (HAV) Operations Engineering team,a dedicated group of engineers focused on delivering superior hardware quality and reliability. Together, you’ll collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, test, application, R&D, and field support teams to root cause hardware failures, optimize processes, and drive product improvement. The team’s core purpose is to ensure Synopsys emulation and prototyping systems set the industry standard for performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
