## Description

Tanium is seeking a highly motivated, proactive attorney to join its legal team as product counsel.

The right person for this position must be self-motivated, intellectually curious, and willing to dig deep into the development of Tanium's products to become a trusted advisor for engineering and product management.

Responsibilities:

- Provide practical legal advice and counseling on a full range of product-related issues that arise domestically and internationally

- Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Strategy teams through the entire product lifecycle to identify issues, recommend practical solutions, and assist cross-functional efforts to achieve go-to-market goals

- Serve as a legal advisor on AI matters, including advising on AI policies, liability, licensing, responsible AI development, deployment, and risk assessments

- Develop and enhance processes designed to ensure ongoing product compliance with global laws and regulations, including global privacy laws, data security, export control, and trade compliance

- Negotiate inbound and outbound license agreements

- Participate in the company's open-source review process

- Advise on privacy by design, privacy impact assessments, and data handling and minimization principles throughout the software development lifecycle

- Review product collateral and marketing materials

- Serve as a subject matter expert on Tanium's products for the Contracts and Legal teams and assist with contract negotiations

- Support the company's incident response program and respond to security events

- Contribute to the company's IP strategy and product roadmap, including management of patent and trademark portfolios and IP enforcement activities in coordination with product teams and outside counsel

Requirements:

- JD from an accredited institution

- Active and in good standing in at least one state bar

- At least 5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, government agency, and/or in-house, with substantive exposure to the software, SaaS, or related technology industry

- Familiarity with emerging AI legal considerations, governance frameworks, and regulations, with the ability to translate requirements into actionable guidance for product and engineering teams

- Working knowledge of global privacy laws and their impact on software product development

- Exceptionally good communication skills

- Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a tightly-knit legal team

- Ability to work cross-functionally within an organization to build consensus and achieve strategic goals as well as the ability to enforce legal requirements without alienating clients
