## Description

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team in Tokyo, Japan. As a key member of our legal team, you will provide proactive, practical, and strategic legal guidance to identify and mitigate legal risks arising from commercial activities.

### Responsibilities

- Act as the primary legal advisor for all general commercial legal matters in Japan, working closely with the local management team and APAC Legal Business Partners.

- Manage legal matters directly and engage internal or external legal resources when required.

- Provide timely and accurate information on legal matters to APAC Area Legal Counsel.

- Support the business team in Japan to locate, identify, and complete the right template agreements.

- Identify and develop legal service initiatives/Legal Operations projects that increase the effectiveness of delivery of legal services to the business.

- Effectively utilise the department’s established document and matter management systems to ensure that all work is accurately recorded and archived.

- Prepare accurate and timely reports, legal advice, and other legal documents.

- Work alongside the Area Legal Counsel APAC in selecting and working with external service providers within Japan and management of associated budget.

- Develop and/or roll-out of Legal internal training programs, providing trainings, introducing new tools and processes.

### Experience

- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience with in-house experience highly regarded.

- Experience in commercial law (contracts, compliance, antitrust, etc.) ideally in the FMCG industry.

- International experience will hold an advantage.

- Ability to manage a diverse group of internal stakeholders based around the world.

- Excellent written and spoken (English and Japanese) communication and interpersonal skills.
