## Description

We are seeking an Associate – Structures (Substations) to lead and manage structural engineering projects within the energy sector in the UK. You will provide technical leadership, manage projects, engage with clients, develop teams, and ensure high-quality design outputs in line with UK standards (Eurocode standards). You will act as a key link between clients, project teams, and senior leadership, driving technical excellence and commercial success.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare feasibility study reports and review with clients

- Assemble design specifications compliant with employer requirements

- Agree and monitor scope of works with Project Director of Structures

- Define building requirements and purpose of use with the Associate/Principal Engineer of Structures and WSP UK Team

- Carry out detailed design to WSP and B Regulations standard

- Review and monitor production of calculations

- Ensure information for project costing preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines

- Provide documentary information for tender documents

- Deal with day-to-day queries from the WSP UK Team

- Report variances between constructed works and design intent

- Lead the design process and encourage the team to deliver cost-effective solutions

- Follow document control, archiving CDM, and QA processes

- Raise technical competence within teams

- Promote technical excellence in projects

- Develop positive professional relationships with the WSP UK Team

- Participate in team meetings and communicate with other teams

- Identify and act on potential risk issues

- Identify and flag additional fees

Mandatory Skills:

- Experienced Civil & Structural Engineer with 15+ years of experience in the Energy & Distributions sector

- Experience in handling projects independently

- Preferable experience in international codes such as American, Euro codes

- Conversant in software such as Tekla, Robot, and STAAD

- Experience in BIM 360 environment

- Sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project

- Fluent in English with excellent understanding of technical terminology

Team Leadership & Development:

- Mentor, coach, and develop engineers and graduates

- Lead resource planning, workload distribution, and team coordination

- Promote technical knowledge sharing, CPD, and internal training

- Support talent acquisition

Construction Support:

- Provide timely technical responses to RFIs and contractor queries

- Attend site inspections, technical audits, and design compliance checks

- Support resolution of construction-stage challenges and value engineering options
