## Description

Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to work on Tempo, the open-source distributed tracing backend behind Grafana Cloud Traces and Grafana Enterprise Traces (GET).

The successful candidate will help shape the future of Tempo, focusing on product and operational excellence, and evolving it into a platform that powers Grafana's next generation of observability products.

Key responsibilities include:

- Delivering significant technical projects, such as trace aggregation APIs, autoscaling cells, and query engine improvements

- Owning major components of Tempo, including ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation

- Building APIs for humans and agents, and contributing to operational excellence

- Collaborating with Product and sibling teams to understand how Tempo gets consumed and shipping what unblocks them

- Mentoring and supporting engineers, and participating in on-call for the services built

Requirements include:

- Technical ownership and a track record of delivering complex projects

- Solid systems experience, particularly with distributed data systems in production

- Strong software craftsmanship and experience with Go

- Operational mindset and customer focus
