## Description

GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Development Health team. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will help make systems relied on by engineering teams more reliable, maintainable, and easier to extend. You will build and improve automation, tooling, and data that help teams spot problems early and ship with less friction.

Responsibilities include:

- Owning and evolving core Development Health systems

- Improving reliability, maintainability, and test coverage of long-lived automation

- Partnering with engineering managers and product teams to identify workflow pain points

- Working with data to show whether changes improve engineering health

- Mentoring intermediate engineers through code review and design feedback

- Monitoring production system health and troubleshooting incidents

- Using AI agents and assistants to analyze issues and shape the team's product roadmap

Requirements:

- Substantial experience as a backend or tooling engineer

- Strong proficiency in Ruby

- Experience maintaining or modernizing legacy codebases

- Comfort with CI/CD systems, APIs, and automation at scale

- Independent problem-solving and clear written communication

- Experience writing automated unit and integration tests

- Optional experience with Rails, developer productivity, engineering analytics, or internal tooling
