## Description

Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer, Mission Systems Software to develop solutions for a real-time system environment, providing mission computing support for an autonomous aircraft with sensors and weapons. The successful candidate will work on establishing a software architecture for a real-time system operating in a multi-level environment.

## Responsibilities

The role involves serving as a software mission systems engineer for a safety- and mission-critical real-time mission-computing system. Key responsibilities include:

- Defining and maintaining the end-to-end software architecture

- Architecting for deterministic real-time performance

- Developing architecture views, interface definitions, and technical decision records

- Integrating sensors, effectors, communications, and other mission-system components

- Designing for mission resilience and assurance

- Establishing engineering practices for concurrency, synchronization, and memory management

- Defining and executing verification strategies

- Maintaining technical ownership throughout the system lifecycle

## Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field

- 8+ years of professional software-engineering experience, including 3+ years in software architecture or technical leadership

- Experience with embedded, distributed, real-time, safety-critical, or mission-critical software systems

- Proficiency in C, C++, Rust, or another strongly typed systems-programming language

- Strong understanding of real-time software principles

- Experience with embedded operating systems, middleware, and data-distribution technologies

## Preferred Qualifications

- Experience developing software for autonomous aircraft or aerospace and defense platforms

- Familiarity with government reference architectures and open-mission-system standards

- Experience with heterogeneous computing architectures, publish/subscribe middleware, and cybersecurity controls

- Active or previously held U.S. Department of Defense Secret clearance
