We’re bringing together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities, and the planet we all share.

We are currently seeking a collaborative, solutions-oriented individual to join our Global Legal team. As our Senior Legal Counsel you will:

- Deliver specialized legal support on US bank regulatory matters affecting HSBC Group companies within the United States and, as appropriate, regarding HSBC Group companies outside of the US

- Work independently, seeking out and maintaining internal client relationships, manage workload calendars effectively, and interact appropriately with internal clients up to and including senior management

- Show an ability to lead by influence, drive change, and move quickly and seamlessly between diverse, complex topics

- Provide expert and professional legal and strategic advice, guidance, and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by businesses in the US are identified, reported, and mitigated

- Be a trusted advisor to the businesses and functions in the U.S. and globally on bank and bank holding company regulatory issues

- Support legal risk stewardship activities

- Assist with driving the company’s regulatory policy advocacy initiatives with U.S. regulators (including banking and financial regulators), collaborating with Legal, Public Affairs, and business and functional partners in the U.S. and globally

- Partner cross functionally to assess risk and to solve complex regulatory issues

- Provide prompt, commercial, practical, and sometimes complex and/or specialized legal advice (under supervision)

- Establish close mutually supportive working relationships with other members of the Legal team

You’ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

- Proven and progressive corporate or public sector legal experience, or equivalent

- Minimum of a Juris Doctorate degree and admission to applicable state Bar and pertinent levels of courts in applicable states

- Strong advocacy, negotiation, interpersonal, organizational, legal research, and verbal-written communication skills

- Ability to identify and address complex legal issues

- Ability to give advice and offer solutions that maintain an appropriate balance between management and mitigation of legal risk and business efficacy

- Deep knowledge of areas of specialty and the ability to take a view as to how law is developing to advise clients and influence regulatory policy

- Experience navigating complex organisations and building effective and collaborative professional relationships with colleagues both in-person and remotely

- Experience working for a federal bank regulatory agency or substantial in-house experience advising on US bank regulatory matters is especially desirable

- Expertise in Regulation W, the Bank Holding Company Act, and capital and liquidity issues is especially desirable
