## Description

We're looking for a highly motivated System Development Engineer to help build Amazon's business-critical delivery systems and solutions that operate at scale. You will work on critical business functions for our customers worldwide while meeting system availability goals and ensuring system performance with growing business needs.

You will discover innovative ways to automate and scale our infrastructure as we expand globally. You will work with multiple teams and departments, with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.

The ideal candidate has a passion for understanding computing systems and applying that understanding with an obsession for delighting customers. You will apply your skills in system design, networking, coding/scripting languages, and technical communication to improve our business processes.

Key responsibilities:

- Design, implement, maintain, and deploy components that solve problems in a complex ecosystem

- Lead migration projects from planning through execution, including infrastructure setup, data replication, traffic management, and post-migration validation

- Identify and implement cost optimization strategies to reduce per-offering costs through automation and streamlined operations

- Mentor and guide junior engineers, conducting code reviews, providing technical direction, and fostering a culture of operational excellence within the team

- Lead root cause analysis for high-severity incidents, implement preventive measures, and drive operational improvements across the team's processes and tooling

- Collaborate with service teams across Amazon to identify and resolve migration blockers

- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure operational support for critical migration activities

- Build AI-assisted workflows that streamline migration operations or make our day-to-day job easier and faster

- Perform deep dives on services with different compute types to generate recommendations for optimization of resources

A day in the life:

You will lead the technical direction for complex migration challenges using AWS technologies and modern development practices. You might collaborate on pipeline infrastructure setups, build AI-assisted workflows that streamline migration operations, or develop tools in Python and Java to automate critical migration tasks. You'll work closely with service teams across Amazon to identify and resolve migration obstacles, analyze memory efficiency across service fleets. Your work will span infrastructure setup, data replication, traffic management, and post-migration validation, all while supporting operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
