## Description

Axios is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, a senior, hands-on individual contributor, to lead architecture and delivery for its core products across multiple teams using strong product-engineering and AI-native practices.

This role involves leading reliable product and platform work across Axios' frontend and backend systems, driving multi-quarter initiatives, improving technical coherence, and using agentic practices to accelerate delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

- Leading cross-team technical initiatives and framing problems

- Owning architecture for a product area and establishing standards

- Hands-on system ownership and writing/reviewing code

- Identifying areas for AI-enabled product and engineering improvements

- Improving quality, reliability, and incident leadership

- Providing technical leadership and mentorship

- Shaping product and technical strategy

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of professional software development experience, expertise in a relevant domain, broad systems thinking, and a commitment to user experience, reliability, scalability, and effective AI-enabled practice.

Required skills include:

- Experience with AI-native development tools

- Frontend development with JavaScript/TypeScript and React

- Backend development with Go and Python

- Data fundamentals and quality/security practices

- Engineering judgment and communication skills

Preferred skills include experience with AI-enabled features, model APIs, and production AI-enabled systems.

The starting salary for this role is in the range of $165,000 - $215,000, dependent on factors such as location, work experience, and skills.
