## Job Overview

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Accounts Platform team at Tide, a company transforming small business banking with advanced technology.

## About the Team

The Accounts team is the platform layer at the centre of Tide's financial infrastructure, owning the core financial ledger and related services. The team operates across the UK, India, and EU, working with various banking partners and regulatory regimes.

## About the Role

The Accounts team is splitting, and the ledger will be carved out into its own dedicated team. The successful candidate will lead the full Accounts team through this transition, designing the seam between the two teams and building the organisational and technical foundation for both. After the split, the candidate will move on to lead the Ledger Team.

## Responsibilities

- Lead the Accounts team through the ledger split, including helping shape how engineers map to each team and sequencing the transition

- Define the technical seam between the ledger and account opening, lifecycle management, and compliance

- Set the engineering direction for the Ledger Team post-split: performance, availability, consistency, long-term architecture

- Own system stability and operational reliability: SLOs, observability, on-call practice

- Partner with product, compliance, and internal operations teams to ensure accuracy, supportability, and compliance across all markets

- Grow engineers at every level, spanning early-career through senior

- Align with other EMs across Banking on cross-cutting infrastructure decisions

## Requirements

- Meaningful engineering management experience, having led teams through real delivery

- Solid backend engineering foundation, with credibility to engage with the team and get into detail when necessary

- Experience leading distributed, remote-first teams across time zones

- Proven experience leading technical teams, aligning with senior leadership on deliveries, and partnering with product

- Fintech or banking domain experience, with knowledge of regulatory requirements and high-volume transaction processing

- Strong grasp of high-volume distributed systems: consistency models, fault tolerance, reliability patterns, SLOs and SLAs, observability tooling

## Technical Depth

- Technically fluent, able to read code, follow architecture, and engage with design decisions and production problems

- Backend engineering in a strongly-typed language (Java/Spring Boot)

- Experience with microservices in a cloud-native environment (AWS)

- Relational database engineering at scale: transactions, consistency guarantees, and write performance at volume

- Event-driven and async systems experience

- Distributed systems migrations at scale

- Exposure to agentic or AI-integrated systems and engineering practices
