## Description

As a Wastewater Operator at 3M's Cottage Grove facility, you will be responsible for the overall operation of the Wastewater and Water Quality Plants, ensuring compliance with State and Federal agency requirements.

**Operations and Equipment:**

- Coordinate with all shifts on operating conditions

- Operate process controls, including pumps, bar screens, compressors, and generators

- Monitor and control plant functions through computer information, automatic controllers, or manual controls

- Operate, control, and monitor treatment process equipment

- Monitor wastewater and process water conditions, adding and adjusting chemicals as needed

- Respond to spills, stoppages, and cleanups by taking corrective actions

**Support:**

- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment

- Inspect and monitor equipment, troubleshooting operational and equipment issues

- Maintain facility cleanliness, including office and laboratory janitorial duties

- Perform hazardous waste management duties according to 3M guidelines

- Change out filters and resin as needed in water filtration systems

**Safety:**

- Perform maintenance checks and service on safety equipment

- Use appropriate safety equipment, including respirators and toxic/explosive monitoring equipment

- Apply proper safety precautions, rules, and regulations

- Identify safe work practices and adhere to all safety procedures

- Attend and participate in department and safety meetings

**Technical:**

- Perform troubleshooting functions and make routine adjustments to motors, pumps, and other equipment

- Use computers to track work orders, maintenance activities, and process summaries

- Maintain operational logs, calibration records, and preventive maintenance records

- Communicate with supervisors, process engineers, and management to identify problem areas

- Collaborate with others and work in teams

**Laboratory Test:**

- Conduct process control tests, collect and test samples, and analyze samples

- Maintain records and documents on operations and equipment

**Additional Responsibilities:**

- Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions

- Review documents and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments

- Regular job attendance is required

- Overtime may be required, including more than 8 hours/day and more than 40 hours/week

- Mandatory rotating shift work is required

**Requirements:**

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Ability to obtain a Wastewater license requirement of Class 'D' within 12-15 months of hire

**Preferred Qualifications:**

- Ability to read and understand training manuals, safety regulations, and standard operating procedures

- Knowledge of basic mathematics

- Computer skills to use standard and customized software

- Preferred certification: State of Minnesota Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Class D or higher
