## Description

As a Staff Software Engineer at PayPal, you will serve as a technical project leader, coordinating the work of other engineers, defining technical tasks, and improving existing systems and processes.

You will make key technical decisions, partner with management to set engineering standards, and represent the company to external partners.

Your focus will be on building agentic commerce, agentic knowledge, and personalization solutions, requiring expertise in AI engineering, cloud platforms, and the full agent-building lifecycle.

**Essential Responsibilities:**

- Act as a project or system leader, coordinating activities of other engineers.

- Determine technical tasks for other engineers.

- Achieve customer, operational, program, or service objectives through your actions.

- Proactively improve existing structures and processes.

- Exercise judgement in reconciling diverse priorities to identify optimal solutions.

- Recognize patterns and develop generalized solutions.

- Collaborate with management to set and improve engineering standards.

- Represent PayPal externally with partners, customers, or industry organizations.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

- 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

- Experience with Python, Java, LangGraph, RAG, prompt and context engineering, GCP Vertex AI, Bigtable, Cloud SQL, vector databases, etc.

**Work Environment:**

- 0% travel required.
